“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” — Matthew 20:26
In the jungle villages of Peru, greatness doesn’t look like applause or status. It looks like muddy shoes, early mornings, and the quiet faith of men and women who choose to serve others before themselves. This is the spirit of Empowering Quechuas’ coaches — ordinary believers living out extraordinary obedience.
When Pastor Jelguer began leading training sessions in Palmeras, his heart wasn’t fixed on building a large program. He simply wanted to be faithful where God planted him. His group is small, but their commitment is fierce. These children don’t see a famous coach — they see someone who knows their names, prays with them, and believes in their potential.
In Contamana, the players gather to memorize Scripture after practice. They sit cross-legged on the field, dusty and tired, repeating verses about love, patience, and faith. Some have never owned a Bible, but they carry God’s Word in their hearts. And in Santa Cruz, young leaders like Ciro — son of Coach Raynith — are already stepping up to help mentor younger teammates, proving that the next generation of servant-leaders is already rising.
This is what service looks like at its purest. It isn’t grand or glamorous, but it’s transformative. When coaches kneel beside players to pray, when they spend their own wages to replace worn-out cones or balls, when they stay late to talk with a struggling teen — they’re sowing seeds of service that will grow long after the final whistle.
Reflection:
True greatness in the Kingdom of God doesn’t come from being first; it comes from going low. It’s measured not in titles, but in tears, prayers, and time spent pouring into others. When we serve, we reflect Christ — the greatest servant of all.
Pray With Us:
Pray for every EQ coach who leads with humility and heart. Ask God to strengthen their hands, provide for their needs, and bless the seeds they are planting across Peru’s mountains and jungles.
